As of 2000, the population was 19,830. Its county seat is Wahoo. It is one of five Nebraska counties in the eight-county Omaha-Council Bluffs Metropolitan Statistical Area.[1]
In the Nebraska license plate system, Saunders County is represented by the prefix 6 (the county had the sixth-largest number of vehicles registered in the state when the license plate system was established in 1922).
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 759 square miles, of which, 754 square miles (1,953 km²) of it is land and 5 square miles (13 km²) of it (0.65%) is water.

As of the census of 2000, there were 19,830 people, 7,498 households, and 5,443 families residing in the county. The population density was 26 people per square mile (10/km²). There were 8,266 housing units at an average density of 11 per square mile (4/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 98.49% White, 0.11% Black or African American, 0.29% Native American, 0.22% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.35% from other races, and 0.55% from two or more races. 1.03% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
