Medical Billing

Business Office Information-Billing

Saunders Medical Center will bill your insurance company on your behalf if all necessary information has been received.  When arriving for services, please have your insurance card(s) with you.  We request you present this information at each visit in order for us to maintain accurate information.  In order to bill your insurance company, we will need the following information:  name of insurance company, mailing address of insurance company, insurance policy's group number and identification number, and policy holder information (name, address, birth date, employer, etc.).

Commercial Insurance/Medicare/Medicaid:

If you have current insurance coverage, Saunders Medical Center will bill your insurance company shortly after services have been received.  After insurance has paid their portion of the bill, you will receive final billing information in the form of statements.  You are always responsible for any applicable deductibles, co-payments or other amounts not paid by your insurance company.

Workers Compensation:

If you receive healthcare services due to a work-related injury and your employer accepts responsibility, we will submit a claim to your employer.  You will also receive a statement for these charges until your employer has paid the claim.  If we do not receive payment, we may ask you to contact your employer.  If your employer denies your claim, we will continue to bill you directly.

Third Party Liability:

If you have been injured in an automobile accident, fall, etc., another party may be legally responsible for your injuries.   Although this matter is ultimately between you, your attorney and the party responsible for your injury, we will bill on your behalf to the carrier you provide to us.  If the carrier provided to us denies your claim, we will bill you or your health insurance.
Once payment has been made by the insurance carrier, a statement will be sent to the account guarantor.  Payment is expected in full at the time the billing is received.  If full payment is unable to be made, please contact a patient account representative (443-1414) for other available arrangements.

Personal Financial Assistance:

If you are uninsured, have limited insurance coverage, or are deemed not eligible for Medicaid, you may qualify for Saunders Medical Center's Community Benefit program.  This program is designed to provide a discount of charges for healthcare services received.  Federal income guidelines as well as income, family size, assets, available resources, etc. are used to determine the patient's eligibility.  Please call a Financial Counselor ( 443-1414) for an application or click here.

FAQ's

Who should I contact with questions regarding my bill?

The Patient Account office is open Monday through Friday 8:00 to 4:30 pm. Please call 443-1414 or you can email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

When will I receive my first bill?

We will send a claim to your insurance company. You will receive a bill indicating that your charges are pending insurance payment.  Once your insurance has made a determination of benefits and has issued payment toward your claim, you will receive a statement showing the amount you owe.

When should I pay my co-pay?

Your insurance plan may require you to make a co-payment for each visit to the office. This co-payment amount may be listed on your insurance card. It is your responsibility to make your co-payment at the time of service. This enables us to process your insurance claim more efficiently. It also eliminates the need to bill you, unless your deductible has not yet been met or your insurance company does not cover the service.

I have more than one bill.  Why?

Depending on where you were seen or the type of care you received, you may receive more than one bill.  These may include bills from the hospital  where your tests were performed, bills from the doctor who provided care, or bills from doctors who reviewed tests or x-rays.

I'm not sure if my insurance has paid.  How will I know when I'm supposed to pay?

Your statement will show the amount paid by your insurance and the amount owed by you.  If you do not understand which amount is owed by you, please call as soon as possible after you received your statement so we can help.

Can I pay my account with a credit card/debit card?

Yes. We can process your Debit card, Visa, MasterCard or Discover payment by submitting your information online, over the telephone or by using the credit card information you return to us by mail with your statement.
